The sophomore filly won January 11 by 5 1/4 lengths at Santa Anita Park.

Sassyserb became California sire Circumference’s first winner Jan. 11 when the filly made her sophomore debut in a one mile maiden special weight on the turf at Santa Anita Park.

Bred in California by John and Allegra Ernst, Sassyserb is the fourth foal and third winner from as many to race out of the Rock Hard Ten mare Incredible Ten. The filly was bought by Meah/Lloyd Bloodstock for $32,000 at the 2018 Barretts Select Yearling Sale, where she was consigned by Ballena Vista Farm.

Sassyserb won in near gate-to-wire fashion by 5 1/4 lengths for owners DA Meah Racing and Next Wave Racing and trainer Anna Meah. Her final time was 1:36.20 on firm ground. The filly has now compiled a 1-3-0 record out of six starts and earned $70,371.

Circumference, who was bred in Ireland raced only at 3 in France, is the first and only son of leading international sire Galileo to stand in California. The 8-year-old stallion is out of Circle of Life, a grade 1-winning daughter of Belong to Me and the dam of grade 1 winner Circular Quay (Thunder Gulch). The mare is also the dam of multiple graded-placed winner The Roundhouse (Fusaichi Pegasus).

Circumference entered stud at Milky Way Farm, near Temecula, Calif., in 2016 for $3,000. His fee remains unchanged for 2020.
